ELEVATING THE BLACK EXPERIENCE

I personally love print, but the lack of diversity across newsstand magazines is an important matter that has nudged at me for decades, finally turning into a persistent push. I take inspiration from the great Nigerian novelist, Chinua Achebe, who said, “Art is man’s constant effort to create for himself a different order of reality from that which is given to him.” And here we are, at the edge of opportunity to create change. We desire to be a part of cultivating real meaningful change and to have an impact on the way we are portrayed in the media. We must raise the voices of Black Canadians and beyond, share resources, illuminate Black leadership and inspire anti-racist action.

Our mission with Black Two Point Zero Media (BLK 2.0) is to elevate stories and amplify triumphs, excellence, adversity, beauty, humor and resilience. We aim to serve and move with love, reverence and intention to do our part to continue to bring awareness and to fill in the gaps in Black representation within our own community.
